Aiming to make Karnataka numero uno in fishing industry – Angara

S Angara, the minister of fisheries, ports, and inland water transportation, claimed that state and federal governments have recently increased their grant funding to promote fishing. According to him, the government is developing a plan to elevate Karnataka to the top spot in India for fishing.

Angara addressed the media in Kukke Subramanya. “Action is made to boost the production, marketing, and quality of fish,” he added. There will be measures made to process the fish on the boat and provide consumers with high-quality fish. The government has given the green signal for fish exports via fly out of Bengaluru. Also proposed is the opening of fish meal houses in Bengaluru.

“More grants are being released to Inland fishing through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada scheme. Earlier our state was ranked ninth in the country. Now we are in fourth position. We have the aim of attaining first spot in next two years. Convention is held with regards to inland fishing and producing various products from fish. Already a plan is formed to produce biodiesel from fish at Mulky in Dakshina Kannada district. Project report is expected to arrive soon,” he said.
