New U.S. Sanctions Disrupt Houthi Supply Chains, Target Iranian Oil Networks

US,
The U.S. Treasury has introduced new sanctions targeting vessels and companies involved in smuggling Iranian oil and commodities, benefiting the Houthi rebels and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Key among the sanctioned vessels are the LPG Om and Raha Gas, which transported Iranian oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Yemen under falsified documents. These shipments help finance the Houthis’ operations, including attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, further destabilizing the region.
This latest move expands on earlier efforts to disrupt financial and logistical networks tied to the Houthis and Iran. Alongside the shipping sanctions, companies in China and other regions, which supply critical components for the Houthis’ missile and UAV programs, have also been targeted. These sanctions are part of the Biden administration’s broader strategy to cut off illicit oil trade and funding that fuels regional conflicts
