US,

Carriers are ramping up preparations for a potential strike at U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports, with CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company announcing surcharges to mitigate potential disruptions. MSC’s “Emergency Operations Surcharge” will begin on October 1, followed by CMA CGM’s charges on October 11, and Hapag-Lloyd’s “Work Disruption Surcharge” on October 18. The surcharges range from $800 to $1,500 per TEU. Carriers warn of global port congestion, with Maersk highlighting the fragility of the supply chain and forecasting significant delays if the strike proceeds.
