Vizhinjam Port Makes History with Arrival of Largest Vessel in Indian Waters

Kerala, India

Vizhinjam International Seaport made history on Friday, receiving MSC Claude Girardet, the largest vessel ever to berth at an Indian port and the biggest in South Asia. The Liberia-flagged container ship, arriving from Malaysia, boasts a capacity of 24,116 TEUs and measures 399m in length.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan celebrated the event as a pivotal moment for Kerala’s development, predicting increased cargo traffic through the strategically located port. After handling containers, the ship departed for Portugal, surpassing the previous record held by MSC Anna.
