Mumbai,
Indian shippers at Nhava Sheva Port (JNPT) are grappling with severe congestion due to rising container volumes and erratic vessel schedules, leading to delays in container pickups and drop-offs. Key terminals like APM Terminals’ Gateway Terminals India (GTI) and DP World’s Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSCIT) have reported average delays of 6-8 hours, causing significant disruptions in the export-import cycle.
The Nhava Sheva Container Operators’ Welfare Association (NSCOWA) and Container Freight Stations Association of India (CFSAI) have flagged high yard inventories and increased turnaround times, urging for better cargo-flow planning and coordinated efforts at the port level. Similar congestion issues have also been reported at Mundra Port, further complicating India’s containerised freight movement.
