Indian Government Orders Sale of Abandoned Drug Smuggling Vessel

New Delhi, India
Indian authorities have ordered the auction of a bulker involved in a major cocaine smuggling case after its owners seemingly abandoned the vessel.
Indian authorities have ordered the sale of a bulker involved in a cocaine smuggling operation after the ship’s owners appear to have abandoned the vessel. The Panama-flagged MV Navios Amaryllis was seized in July when 2,000 kilograms of cocaine were discovered onboard while it was anchored off the coast of Odisha. With no response from the ship’s owners and mounting port costs, the vessel is now set to be auctioned, with proceeds likely covering the crew’s wages and other expenses.
