Jiangnan Shipbuilding Secures Landmark VLAC Deal with Singapore’s Jaldhi Overseas

Singapore

Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a division of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has obtained a contract to build up to four very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters each.
Jiangnan Shipbuilding has signed a contract with Singapore-based vessel chartering and logistics company Jaldhi Overseas, a subsidiary of Bothra Group, for the construction of two 93,000 cubic meter Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) on August 14. In addition, both parties inked a letter of intent (LoI) for the potential construction of two more VLACs of the same capacity.
Details regarding the contract value or delivery dates of the vessels remain undisclosed. This marks Jiangnan Shipbuilding’s second VLAC deal in less than 30 days. In late July, the Chinese shipyard secured a $250 million contract with AW Shipping, a joint venture between ADNOC L&S and Wanhua Chemical, for two VLACs, with an option for two more at the same price.
