The construction of the Machilipatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh, which began on April 21, 2023, is set to be completed by October 2025, according to Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. Although not part of the central government’s Sagarmala Scheme, the port’s development is backed by a significant ₹3,940.42 crore term loan from the Power Finance Corporation to the Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board.
In addition to the port’s development, Andhra Pradesh is seeing substantial investment in its waterways. The Visakhapatnam Port Authority and the Inland Waterways Authority of India have initiated 36 projects worth ₹4,600 crores, with 22 projects (₹2,530 crores) completed and 14 projects (₹2,070 crores) underway.
