Union Minister visits Mormugao Zonal Base of FSI

Dr. L. Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Fisheries, went sailing for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations on Monday while reviewing various projects at the Mormugao Zonal Base of the Fishery Survey of India (FSI).

Dr. R. Jayabhaskaran, the FSI Director General, Dr. S. Ramachandran, the FSI Zonal Director, and other authorities were present.

Motor Fishing Vessel (MFV) Sagarika and MFV Yellowfin, two survey vessels at the Mormugao Zonal Base facility, were visited by Dr. L. Murugan. The Minister sailed for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations on the latter vessel.

The union minister was briefed by Director General Dr. R. Jayabhaskaran on the different FSI initiatives.

He described the organization’s process for surveying and evaluating marine fisheries resources along the shores of Goa, Karnataka, and the Lakshadweep islands in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone.
He also gave the union minister an overview of some of his earlier accomplishments, including teaching fishermen various fishing tactics, identifying fishing locations, and sharing this knowledge with the fishing sector.
