According to the Navy, a ship on patrol close to the India-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line came across a suspicious boat in Palk Bay and fired warning rounds when the boat did not halt.
The injured person, identified as K Veeravel from Vanagiri village in the Mayiladuthurai district, was given first aid by the ship and evacuated by an Indian Navy Chetak helicopter to INS Parandu at Ramnad before being transferred to the Government Hospital, Ramanathapuram for additional medical care. According to reports, his status is steady.
A Defence PRO tweet noted that the Navy claimed that one of its ships, while on patrol along the India-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line, came upon a suspicious boat in Palk Bay and when it failed to stop, fired warning shots in accordance with standard operating procedures.
