Two diving support vessels (DSVs) that are being built under the class of the Indian Register of Shipping and were recently launched by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vishakhapatnam, India, are another example of atmanirbhar (self-reliance) in defence.
The two diving support ships, Nistar and Nipun, measure 118.4 metres in length, 22.8 metres in width, and can carry 9,350 tonnes each. The two ships will be used by the Indian Navy to conduct deep sea diving operations, prolonged maritime patrols, search and rescue missions, and helicopter operations.
Several significant Indian Navy projects, including Survey Vessels (Large), Shallow water ASW Corvettes, floating dock, Semi-submersible pontoon, Cadet Training ships, and numerous other auxiliary vessels, have received orders for classification and certification from IRS.
