A case involving the Narcotics Central Bureau’s (NCB) Friday seizure of 200 kg of Afghan heroin from an Iranian fishing vessel off the coast of Kochi may be turned over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is reportedly gathering information for the investigation agency about the seizure of 200 kg of Afghan heroin from an Iranian fishing vessel off the coast of Kochi, and the investigators are rumored to have questioned the six Iranian crew members who were detained from the vessel.
According to sources, the Center may transfer the case investigation to the NIA because the preliminary investigation found that an international drug gang with alleged connections to Pakistan is engaged in drug trafficking.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made a significant narcotics discovery by seizing 200 kg of Afghan heroin from an Iranian fishing boat off the coast of Kochi on Friday. Six Iranian nationals were detained and sent to Kochi on the boat.
In a joint operation with the Indian Navy, the NCB claimed to have intercepted the fishing boat after acting on specific information about a global drug trafficking ring. The cargo was intended to be delivered to a Sri Lankan vessel.
According to NCB officials, 200 packages containing the recovered heroin were marked and packaged specifically for narcotics cartels with bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. While some of the medication packets were marked with a “Scorpion” seal, others were marked with a “dragon.”
The substance came from Afghanistan, was shipped to Pakistan, and was then loaded onto the Iranian ship that was intercepted off the coast of Pakistan. They said that the cocaine was transported using the network of Pakistani drug lord Haji Salim.
The NCB sources added that during the past few years, there has been a sharp increase in the trafficking of heroin from Afghanistan into India via the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
