The fishermen were reportedly detained by the Sri Lankan Navy on Tuesday morning around 2:00 am while they were fishing close to Neduntheevu, according to sources in the Coastal Security Group.
The fishermen and their boats were transported to Sri Lanka’s Kankesanthurai naval base. Boat owners P Tamilselvan (37), C Viji (28), A Dinesh (26), G Ranjith (27), S Pakkirisamy (45), S Kamal (25), and S Punudhu (41) and M. Karthik were among those detained, according to sources (27).
