For the largest coastline cleanup campaign, Essar teams up with the Indian Coast Guard

India, which is gifted with a 7,500 km long coastline and occupies the top of the Indian Ocean, benefits from a wide range of unique advantages.

Essar today partnered with the Indian Coast Guard for the largest coastal cleanup drive, “Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar,” in Mumbai on “International Coastal Clean-up Day,” recognizing the strategic location and enormous potential of the coastline while emphasizing the significance of raising awareness towards environment conservation.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences’ “Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar” campaign, which aimed to clean 75 beaches nationwide over the course of 75 days, came to an end today.

Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the governor of Maharashtra, Poonam Mahajan, a distinguished member of the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North Central, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the ministry of earth sciences, V. S. Pathania, PTM, TM, the director general of the Indian Coast Guard, and Capt. Rahul Bhargava, COO of Essar Shipping, was all present at today’s event.

Essar’s participation in the Coastal Clean Up Drive was intended to raise public awareness of the dangers posed by plastic and the threat that declining ocean health poses to the natural balance.

Commenting on the initiative Mr. Rajiv Agarwal, Operating Partner (Infrastructure), Essar and Managing Director, Essar Ports said, “Our contribution and participation in this largest coastal cleanup drive further our commitment towards the protection of our environment. As a company, we are cognizant of preserving coastal and marine habitats to save some of the most productive, yet threatened, ecosystems in the world. Essar Ports and Essar Shipping have been associated with the Indian Coast Guard for the last 10 years in driving such ocean clean-up activities. We urge each and every individual to take responsibility to minimize litter and improve coastal and ocean health”

In addition to raising awareness of the terrible effects of plastic usage on marine life and marine litter, this groundbreaking campaign also changed people’s behavior.

Essar Ports has been a leader in making technological investments and creating effective handling methods that are also environmentally friendly. The company’s fully automated eco-friendly infrastructure produces results that may be compared to the best throughout the world.
