Rameswaram Tamil Nadu: The mechanized boat fishermen organization in Rameswaram city has called on the government to protect the livelihood and property of the fishermen from Rameswaram from ongoing attacks by the Sri Lankan navy.
A leader of the organization cited a recent instance of the Sri Lankan navy destroying the fishing nets of the fishermen who headed out in 456 boats for fishing on Wednesday, as the latest, in a long line of atrocities committed against the fishermen from Rameswaram.
As a result, all of the guys were forced to return home in fear for their lives, according to P Sesu Raja, the association’s leader for mechanized boat fishermen.
He alleged that each boatman lost Rs 50,000 as a result of the naval personnel’s activities and that the atrocities committed by the Lankan navy against the Tamil Nadu fishermen appeared to be going unchecked.
He stated that the fishermen from Rameswaram and the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu have placed their faith in the State and Central governments to protect them and their property at sea.
