Turkish Chief Officer onboard bulk carrier Ince Ege reportedly died after falling into water from Singapore-flagged vessel’s pilot ladder, while he was reading the draft marks on Friday at the Taman Port in the Black Sea in Russia.
The chief was rescued 45 minutes later, neither the vessel’s crew nor the paramedics were able to resuscitate him, and the officer died of hypothermia.
The Ince Ege, a 2010-built vessel with a DWT of 57,373 tonnes, was moored at the port after a voyage from the Huelva Port in Spain when the incident occurred. As per the reports, the Chief Officer’s body will be transferred to his homeland immediately after the completion of the required formalities.
On January 29th, another Turkish national, the Captain of the bulk carrier Mathilde Oldendorff, died while attempting to measure the draught of the vessel from the pilot ladder at China’s Tianjin Port. The cause of death, on the other hand, is largely said to be China’s contentious ‘zero-COVID’ policy.
