By Priti Naik

In an official statement issued by the Indian Maritime University (IMU), the central government institute stated that the news circulating in social media on the validity of degrees offered by IMU and promoting other private institution is ‘FAKE’.

Furthermore, the Indian Maritime University mentioned that it is the only Central University on Maritime established by the Act of Parliament in 2008.

The University is empowered to award degrees and diploma certificate to students who have successfully completed the course. And the certificates provided by IMU are universally accepted by universities and institutes all over the world. At present in India, there are 54 Central Universities. Out of these 54 universities, 44 Central Universities come under purview of MHRD, and 10 Central Universities are operating under other Ministries as they are representing a specialized field. IMU is one of such Universities in the marine science field under the purview of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
