2000 passengers stuck on Mumbai-Goa Cruise Ship as crew member tests positive for Covid-19

By Priti Naik

Around 2000 people are stranded on the Mumbai-Goa Cruise Ship after a crew member was tested positive for Covid-19. The Cordelia Cruise ship had come from Mumbai and is docked at Mormugao cruise terminal.

The health authorities are testing all the 2,000 people onboard for Covid-19, and the passengers are eagerly waiting for their reports. Meanwhile, the infected crew member has been kept in isolation. He had taken a rapid antigen test where he was tested positive.

The passengers on the cruise ship are asked to remain onboard until their test results are out. Operators of this cruise ship have been asked to conduct Covid-19 tests on all the passengers through the Vasco-based Salgaonkar Medical Research Centre (SMRC) Hospital.

Goa will set up a genome sequencing machine in the next 15 days to avoid delay in the testing of suspected Omicron variant samples, which are currently sent to the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV).
