First ship to call at Vizhinjam as scheduled: Devarkovil

The first ship will make its scheduled port call at Vizhinjam despite the fact that construction of the Vizhinjam International Seaport has been halted for a number of reasons, including a strike by fishermen led by the Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese of the Catholic Church (Latin rite).

After a review meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, the Minister addressed the media.
An suitable decision would be made on the damage incurred by the contractor company as a result of the strike following consultation with the chief minister, the law department, and the finance department.

The majority of the demonstrators’ demands had been sympathetically taken into account and carried out by the government. If any more action was needed, the administration was prepared to engage with anyone, including the demonstrators, according to Mr. Devarkovil.

A Cabinet subcommittee was formed to deal with the demonstrators since the State government had a sympathetic attitude toward the interests of the fishing community. The committee and the protesters had engaged in numerous rounds of negotiation addressing various demands and had come to an understanding on the majority of them. According to Mr. Devarkovil, the State government was attempting to resolve the issues through mutual consent in accordance with the High Court’s instruction because the Kerala High Court had interfered in this case.

To make up for lost man-days, the contracting company had committed to supply more personnel and tools. In theory, it had been decided to give the port developer the portion of the Viability Gap Fund (VGA) that belonged to the Central government. The Minister stated that the Port department had been told to expedite further actions in order to pay the State government’s portion.
