Red Alert Warning For Karnataka Fishermen

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall for the coastal regions of Karnataka and Kasaragod in the coming days.

In its most recent meteorological advisory, IMD has issued a red alert for the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Kasaragod. The coastal districts should expect significant rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning, it said.

On the 8th and 9th of September, isolated rainfall is also extremely likely over coastal Karnataka.

According to the study, cyclonic circulation is present over South Interior Karnataka and the surrounding area and rises to the mid-tropospheric level.

Squally weather (wind speeds of 40–45 kmph with gusts to 55 kmph) is predicted to predominate along and off the coast of Karnataka for three days from September 7th to 10th.

INCOIS has issued a high wave alarm warning. Hence, fishermen are advised to avoid visiting these sea locations within the time frame stated.

The Udupi District Disaster Management Authority has, in the meantime, issued a warning to department officials to be vigilant. Kurma Rao, the deputy commissioner, has ordered district and taluk officials, including the nodal officers and members of the Disaster Management Committee, to be prepared to handle any emergency situations.
