BY Shivani

During a storm off the coast of the Netherlands on Monday, The ‘Julietta D’ – a Maltese-registered freighter collided with an oil tanker named Pechora Star.

Eighteen crew members were rescued in an-hour long operation after the collision in the North Sea as Storm Corrie lashed other parts of northern Europe.

According to Edward Zwitser, a spokesman for the Royal Dutch Lifeboat Company, the ‘Julietta D,’ a Maltese-registered freighter, collided with another boat around 32 kilometers west of the port of Ijmuiden. Julietta D is still afloat in the water while the oil tanker is stable and was able to continue its voyage as per the reports.

The rescue operation involved three helicopters, one of which was from Belgium. Storm Corrie’s powerful winds followed Storm Malik, which killed at least four people and destroyed dozens of homes.

The western Netherlands was particularly hard hit on Monday morning, with strong winds uprooting trees and causing traffic jams.
